"I have been a doula for close to 20 years now and a proud member of DSA for nearly as long. I have continued to reap the benefits of being part of a well-respected professional affiliation with the highest of standards for its members. The educational opportunities have been numerous and varied, many of which I’m sure I would never have sought out on my own. However, I would have to say that the greatest benefit of being a member of DSA is a sense of belonging. It’s the personal connections, compassion, encouragement and all around feeling of support that comes from the individual members, both at the regular meeting and outside of them. Doula work can be very lonely, challenging and somewhat isolating. I don’t think I could have lasted as long as I have without the personal connections and support that I get from my sister doulas!Through DSA I have forged friendships that will last a lifetime."

Testimonial from Nicole who is now at Midwifery School
Just a little note to let you know how much I miss the DSA! The DSA was my first introduction to birth and it was an important first impression, as it lead me into midwifery. I'm now in my first year of midwifery at McMaster University and I mourn the loss of the DSA in my life. So far, nothing I've found in the community here has come close to the friendly efficiency of the DSA. I so wish I could still be on the receiving end of those phone calls requesting my services for moms in my area. Since the first year of the midwifery program is mostly coursework, I really am missing my mom-baby connection.
Thank you so much for all the amazing hard work you put into the DSA! Your tenacity and compassion for the clients and doulas of the DSA is admirable and wonderful to see. You are greatly missed by one student who is going through birth-withdrawal!
