The Volunteer Doula Fund

The Doula Services Association is well known in our community for the services we provide for compassionate and professional doula support for families in-need. We know that with a DSA doula by their side, families will prepare for birth and postpartum period knowing they have a dedicated support person with them, leading to more positive birth outcomes.

Every year we receive around 100 referrals from community members throughout the province (Midwives, Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers etc.) and we are committed to finding a doula for each of these individuals in need.

The doulas who attend these births and/or provide postpartum support do so voluntarily and with no charge. The purpose of The Volunteer Doula Fund is to pay a small stipend to our volunteers to cover the costs associated with providing birth support.

Though we are a non-profit, we are not a registered charity so are unable to provide receipts for your contributions to be used for tax purposes.

How does the Volunteer Doula Fund work?

Every single dollar that is gifted to the Volunteer Doula Fund will go towards providing our amazing doulas a stipend to cover the costs of attending births/providing postpartum support.  Birth/postpartum work comes with expenses (parking, childcare, food, training, supplies) and currently, our doulas pay for these expenses out of pocket because they want to support families in need. We want to be able to support more families by providing a stipend so that more doulas will agree to support these families.

Who will benefit from this?

Individuals who have been referred to us get the much needed support every birthing family deserves.  Commonly, these are people experiencing financial hardship, lack of support, high risk situations or demographics.  We are very proud to provide a doula for all who want one.
Communities benefit when their members are supported, especially in birth - one of life's most profound events; an event that can absolutely be life-changing for many.
Our Doulas benefit by being recognized for the heart and passion they bring to our communities. With The Doula Fund, we will be able to cover their costs so they do not have to pay to care for these individuals.
